Though the tree may be put away and lights are down for some, what still may hang around are the debts people may have brought on themselves.
As a result, consumers may wonder what it is they can do in order to pay off debt. Recently, the Omaha World-Herald, relying on suggestions made by the Association of Independent Consumer Credit Counseling Agencies, gave a number of tips consumers can stick to during 2010.
One thing people should do is cut back any unnecessary expenses they see in their budgets. That would include eating out or reducing entertainment expenses.
Another thing people may try and do is seek some additional cash to reduce their extra holiday debt.
"Add a part-time job, work overtime, or hold a garage sale or auction and pay down the debt," the paper noted.
However, some consumers may have indulged a bit too much when shopping during the holidays and now find themselves in a pinch to make ends meet. For consumers who may feel as though they are in too deep, one option may be consumer credit counseling, which can help with budgeting or through reducing interest payments on credit card debt.
