A recent report shows that the recession is still affecting shopping plans for some consumers.
According to a survey from PriceGrabber.com, 45 percent of respondents said they are going to spend as much as they did on back-to-school supplies as they did last year. Meanwhile, 41 percent said they were looking to spend less.
"The data is clear that consumers are still focused on spending the same amount or less on back-to-school purchases this year, even with the expected lift in the recession," Barbary Brunner, PriceGrabber.com chief marketing officer, said.
Still, while people plan on being careful with school spending, the poll showed that 64 percent said they had not been saving for these items. According to the company, this could mean that people have incorporated these expenses into their monthly budgets for the next few months.
By taking into account these expenses into a financial plan, consumers may be better able to guide their funds through tough times. Those who are having trouble getting a grip on budgeting may consider consumer credit counseling, which can help analyze income and expenses.
