As Father's Day approaches, some people may be reminded of those old cliches their dads were quick to bring up.
However, some of those pieces of advice may actually come in handing when it comes to how people deal with their personal finances, according to a recent release from the Federal Trade Commission. For example, there's the one about walking barefoot in snow to and from school, which somehow managed to be an uphill climb in either direction.
"The geography of this never made a lot of sense, but dad's right about one thing," the FTC said. "Most things worth having - including financial security - take time, perseverance, and hard work."
Other kids may have heard their dad complain about how they dress. However, the FTC noted that the way consumers present themselves online may play a factor when setting up a financial future. Experts have said that some companies may look at social networking sites like Facebook or MySpace when making hiring decisions.
Despite all the advice from fathers, some people may still have difficulty when it comes to setting up a budget to take care of their bills. However, they may be able to tap into consumer credit counseling services, which can help them set up a plan to take care of their finances.
