Consumers are trying many different ways to stay out of debt, and saving money on travel may be one way to do so.
The New York Times recently advised that consumers should avoid traveling on holidays because airlines may increase ticket prices on those days. Travelers may also consider taking a bus instead of flying, an option that the paper said has become more attractive to people in the Northeast.
"With amenities like more legroom, power plugs at every seat and free Wi-Fi, the bus ride, though longer, can often be more tolerable than a flight that costs 10 times as much," the Times stated.
Another strategy for saving money is for consumers to keep track of the price of their ticket even after they buy it. If the price goes down, some carriers will offer the difference in the form of a voucher, albeit for a fee.
However, even these money-saving tips may not be enough for consumers who are trying to stick to a spending plan. People who are trying to find help with their budgets may consider a consumer credit counseling service, which can give them financial planning advice.
