Finding additional work during the summer could help consumers dealing with increased debts, although a recent report shows 2010 will look a lot like last year.
According to the CareerBuilder.com Annual Summer Job Forecast, 22 percent of responding employers said they would bring on additional help for the summer. That is about the same as was reported for the summer of last year, the company said.
"On par with last year, finding summer employment is going to be tough for the millions of job seekers who were counting on warmer weather to provide additional employment opportunities," said Rosemary Haefner, CareerBuilder vice president of human resources.
Those running retail or hospitality business were the most likely to hire additional workers, with the former seeing 40 percent of respondents saying they would add posts. Other active areas include office support, customer service and landscaping.
People who are lucky enough to find a summer job can use the extra cash to pay off their credit cards or other bills. They may also consider consulting with a consumer credit counseling service, which can help them set up a budget that will avoid future financial problems.
