Rather than worry about whether the Colts or Saints win this year, a number of consumers are concentrating on making sure they don't lose through spending too much on the Super Bowl.
According to a survey released by the Retail Advertising and Marketing Association, Super Bowl spending is expected to hit $8.9 billion this year. However, poll respondents said they expected to spend $52.63 on purchases associated with the biggest American sporting event of the year. That's down from the $57.27 people planned on spending for last year's game.
Though spending may decrease, a number of people still plan on either hosting (13.8 percent) or going to (25.6 percent) a party for the Super Bowl this year.
"Watching the Super Bowl together is a tradition many people look forward to every year," said Phil Rist, executive vice president of strategic initiatives for BIGresearch, which conducted the poll.
While some consumers may look forward to watching the game, others may not be able to spend much on it because of their issues with being able to pay off debt. Consumers who are having a harder time trying to make ends meet may consider visiting with a consumer credit counseling service, which can help coach them on better ways to manage their money like budgeting and sacking expenses.
