When trying to pay for college, people may consider additional scholarships or advice from consumer credit counseling organiz

By Edith Barlow on Apr 3rd, 2010

One of the major costs people may face is paying for their child's college education.

However, there are ways to make paying such expenses easier. Sallie Mae recently produced some tips for parents who are facing the prospect of trying to afford a college education.

"More than 3 million high school students and their parents are gathered around the kitchen table having conversations right now about how to pay for college," Sallie Mae executive vice president Joe DePaulo said.

One thing children can do is try to apply for more scholarships. Though it may be too late now to do so for some, other money offers may have deadlines that extend into the summer.

Parents may also be able to use a payment plan offered by Sallie Mae, which allows tuition payments to be made over a period of months rather than in a lump sum. This payment plan is available without interest being charged.

One way that the college tuition process may be made easier is by consulting with a consumer credit counseling service. These firms can help people establish a budget that will allow them to save for college over a period of time.
