There are a variety of deductions people may be able to make on their taxes, especially with breaks made available through the government's recovery act.
However, tax filers may not be aware of all the benefits they may be entitled to. As a result, Vice President Joe Biden recently announced that the White House has launched a new website to help consumers keep track of the various tax breaks created by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
The information is available at www.whitehouse.gov/recovery. Some of the deductions involve the purchase of a new home, while others are centered on installing energy-efficient improvements on their houses.
"The big guys know all the credits and deductions to claim during tax season, but we want middle class families to know just how much is out there for them this year thanks to the Recovery Act - and how to take advantage of it," Biden said.
While the website may help consumers, others may struggle with how to handle their finances in general. One option they may consider is a consumer credit counseling agency, which can help through analyzing their income and setting up a budget.
