Boston theater offers free movie screening for the unemployed

01/11/2010

Many consumers who are concentrating on trying to pay off debt may cut out things like entertainment in order to save money.

Recently, a movie theater in Boston is offering free movie screenings to people who can prove they are unemployed. According to WickedLocal.com, the Coolidge Corner Theater is making the free matinees available on Thursdays.

"If you're not working, it's a perfect opportunity to offer you a little relief," Denise Kasell, executive director for the theater, said.

All unemployed people have to do in order to attend a free show is provide some proof that they are unemployed. That could include a letter from the Massachusetts Division of Unemployment Assistance or an unemployment check. The free screenings are available for shows starting before 4 p.m.

Though free movies may provide some with an escape from their day-to-day difficulties with debt, the amount people owe is not going to go away on its own. As a result, people who are struggling with their finances may consider debt consolidation, which could help them better organize their payments and reduce the amount they'll pay in interest.
