Some consumers who are concerned with identity theft have that fear extended to include using their credit cards online, according to a recent poll from Rasmussen Reports.
The survey showed that 47 percent of respondents do not feel comfortable with using a credit card for internet transactions. Though 49 percent said they were "somewhat comfortable" using credit on the web, though that result is 11 percent less than a survey taken during the same time last year.
The report from Rasmussen did indicate that people who are on the internet often seem to be more at ease when it comes to using credit cards for web-based purchases.
"But even among those who are online several times a week, there is a wariness about using their credit cards on the Internet," the report stated.
Though identity theft may cause some consumers to avoid using credit cards, others may be driven by concerns about taking on more debt. A number of surveys prior to the holiday shopping season showed that people planned on avoiding using credit cards to purchase items.
And though fear may motivate some to avoid credit card debt, others may not have been as prudent with their plastic. One option for people who are facing high credit card balances is debt consolidation, which may help reduce interest and make payments easier.
