Despite a number of indications otherwise, some consumers may not be convinced that the recession is over.
However, a recent survey from Experian's PriceGrabber.com shows that 52 percent of respondents feel as though the recession will come to an end before the start of next year. While only 44 percent of rural residents expressed that thought, 57 percent of urban dwellers felt the end of 2011 would also bring the conclusion to the economic downturn.
"While many respondents are still currently spending less than they were at the start of the recession, the data on planning for big-ticket purchases and increased consumer spending support consumer expectations of a 2010 economic turnaround," Laura Conrad, president of PriceGrabber.com, said.
According to the poll, 35 percent of respondents have already bought a big-ticket item this year, while another 24 percent said they are looking to do so in 2010.
However, some consumers may still be contending with mounting bills, which would prompt them to hold on to their money. Others might be facing higher interest rates, although they do have options they could consider.
One of those is debt consolidation, which can offer some consumers reduced interest rates on credit card debt.
