An NFL football player recently joined with state officials from Iowa to present a video game that helps young people learn how to avoid getting sacked in their financial lives.
According to the Des Moines Register, Seneca Wallace, a Seattle Seahawks quarterback, joined Iowa State Treasurer Michael Fitzgerald to showcase the game at Des Moines East High School. The game features questions about personal finance and debt with a football theme and hopes to help avoid young people getting flagged for bad decisions.
"In this day and age, it's as important to know how to manage your money as it is to know how to earn it," Fitzgerald said to students at the high school.
For each question a student gets right in the game, they are moved closer towards a virtual end zone for a touchdown. Wrong answers make the player lose yardage on the field.
Though the game may help young people, some older Americans may have already made a false start in the financial game of life. Those who are having trouble making plays toward a better financial future may turn to the debt consolidation page of the personal finance playbook. Doing so could help them reduce their interest payments on credit card debt.
