When it comes to how much they have to spend, a recent report from the government shows that prices remained flat in February.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the Consumer Price Index remained at the same level between January and February. On a year-to-year basis, the CPI increased 2.1 percent.
The price of energy declined in February when compared to the first month of the year. However, that was countered by an increase in food costs and prices for other items.
"Within the latter group, declines in the indexes for apparel and household furnishings and operations were more than offset by continuing increases in the indexes for medical care and used cars and trucks," the BLS said.
The price of items not including food and energy increased 1.3 percent on a year-to-year basis, which the BLS said is the lowest amount since February 2004.
Though prices remained the same, some consumers may still be having difficulties when it comes to making ends meet, especially with unemployment nearly at double-digit levels. Consumers who may have relied on credit cards for their basic needs may consider debt consolidation.
Doing so could reduce the amount consumers pay on interest for their credit card debt.
