Though the economy gave some consumers a rough ride this year, many are still looking to the future with the goal of trying to pay off debt.
A recent survey from Edward Jones showed that trying to pay off debt was second-highest financial concern for consumers heading into 2010. Trying to pay off debt came in behind only trying to save more money as a top priority for respondents.
The poll's results showed that respondents were divided by age groups when it comes to what they consider to be the most important financial goal for 2010. For example, the survey indicated that middle-aged respondents were more likely to focus on trying to pay off debt, while those age 18 to 34, along with people older than 65, were more concerned with saving money.
Of course, not everyone is in a position to be able to pay off debt or save money on their own. When faced with a difficult financial situation, some consumers may consider a debt management plan, which can help them find a way to pay off what they owe.
