One reason why people are having a difficult time trying to pay off debt is because they've been out of a job for some time.
However, there may be an opportunity for some employment through the government as the Commerce Department ramps up its efforts to collect the 2010 Census. A recent report shows that the temporary work the Census provides may help the economy.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, by May the number of temporary jobs created by the Census could be over 500,000. Spending on the Census could increase the country's gross domestic product by an annual rate of 0.25 percentage points.
"The report also finds that 2010 Census hiring may decrease the unemployment rate by several tenths of a percentage point," the U.S. Census Bureau said.
While some consumers continue to struggle with finding any kind of, a number of people have turned to part-time work in order to help pay off debt. As a result, many people who were career-focused before the recession have turned to positions in the retail industry in order to make ends meet.
